DEBRA'S RAILWAY ART ... 'POWERFUL & AUTHENTIC, PAST & PRESENT'
|
Feel free to browse through the paintings in the Railway Art gallery, simply click on an image for more detail and a brief history surrounding the painting.... The Severn Valley Series Luckily, many of our favourite stations of the Severn Valley Line still exist, mainly due to the preservation group which was established in 1965. Classic preserved steam locos still run on a regular basis on this midlands line, presenting many evocative scenes for us to enjoy.
The Churnet Valley Collection These are paintings of the wonderful old railway stations that are located in the Churnet Valley. Unfortunately only Cheddleton and Kingsley & Froghall are still in use, although work is continuing on this line, including the restoration of Consall Halt. Alton has been restored, but sadly Oakamoor station has been demolished and little evidence remains of the old railway line and cutting.
The Staffordshire Stations Series These beautifully designed railway stations that graced part of the North Staffordshire Railway have all but disappeared from the public domain. Hixon and Barlaston have both been demolished, and Sandon is now a private residence. On a more positive note Stone Station has been successfully restored to its full glory.
Spectacular Winter Scenes Capturing the harsh yet beautiful scenery of winter. With crisp snow and smoking chimneys, and those nostalgic memories of Christmas time.
Famous Steam Locomotives Images of our favourite steam locomotives are depicted in wonderful settings, and their splendour can be appreciated by all. The world famous Orient Express has been admired by many for years, The Northern Belle is just one locomotive that takes pride of place in this new art gallery, which will feature other popular engines, including The Flying Scotsman.
THE PAINTINGS LISTED BELOW ARE PRIVATE COMMISSIONED RAILWAY SCENES I was commissioned to paint this view by Mr Steve Colyer to be presented as a gift to his brother for his 60th birthday. The scene depicts the Flying Scotsman, 60103 travelling through Water Orton Station between Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill. It was completed to quite a tight deadline and was framed and ready to be collected by Steve in time for the birthday celebrations!
Mr Doorbar wanted to start a collection of paintings to capture his childhood memories as a keen railway enthusiast living in Stone, Staffordshire. He lived close to the small railway crossing cottage at Whitebridge Lane in Stone and visited it on most days to enjoy watching the locos pass by hence the first painting pictures Mr Doorbar as a child watching The Duchess of Sutherland pass through. The second painting is a streamlined Pacific loco, The Duchess of Hamilton passing through Stone Railway Station, again Mr Doorbar is depicted as a child enjoying the glory of this fantastic loco.
'Whitebridge Crossing Cottage' 'The Duchess of Hamilton'nnnn This painting of 'The Flying Scotsman at Waverley' was commissioned by a family as a very special Birthday gift. Archived images, provided by Debra, of Waverley Station and the Flying Scotsman Locomotive were used to create this composition.
'The Flying Scotsman was my Dad's favourite train and so when presented with an original painting of this on his 60th birthday he was more than delighted. My Dad really loved the painting and had it placed as pride and joy in the living room facing his chair. Unfortunately a month later Dad passed away, but the painting of the Flying Scotsman remains a constant reminder of his passion of trains and joy in art. We are so thankful to you for making his last gift the greatest. Thank you Debra' Sarah Middleton (Scotland) If you would like to commission your own railway painting please visit my commissions page or complete your details on the form below. |
